Hotel Boutique Casa Reyna is an attractive property with a lot going for it. The architecture is a blending of (well maintained) old-style thick wall stone construction and sleek modern design. The large rooms, bathrooms and public areas are beautifully decorated in a minimalist style with heavy rustic furniture, top of the line fixtures, fine & primitive art and lots of examples of top quality Talavera pottery made at a factory owned by the hotel.
From the hotel it is a 5-minute walk to the well-known Parian market and roughly 10 minutes to the Zocalo and city center attractions.
It also helps that the hotel restaurant is considered one of the best in a city that many think of as the foodcentric capital of Mexico. We enjoyed several excellent evening meals sampling probably the best mole (a 4 mole sampler) we’ve ever eaten, a good wine list and offerings of mezcal and other spirits at the hotel restaurant, which also featured very good service.
It was this writer’s mistake but on our first evening there, I assumed I was drinking examples of Puebla State’s emerging mezcal production industry only to discover we were actually drinking some of Oaxaca’s finest.
A continental breakfast with a choice of juices with options for made-to-order A la carte additions was included in a very affordable room rate.
The hotel has an affiliation with the Audi auto company (see the 4-rings Audi emblem over the passage opening in the hotel courtyard to the left) and offered us rides in the hotel car (an Audi S6 Sedan with a V-10 engine) on multiple occasions for no-charge for the car requesting only a tip for the driver. We took advantage of the service to go to dinner one evening, all the way to The Great Pyramid in Cholula one morning and to the bus station on our way to the MEX airport.
There is a surprisingly nice little heated pool and spa on the 3rd floor and awesome views of the city from the 4th floor running track.
The front desk staff was very pleasant and added to a very enjoyable 4-night stay at the hotel.
