You won’t find any humongous high rise hotels in Holbox but there is a varied and decent selection in terms of style and prices of hotels from palapas to a holistic health spa resort as well as a few house rentals. Due partly to the narrow lay of the island, most hotels offer beach front locations. Although there are some exceptions, as is the case in may ocean side vacation areas, the further away from the shorline, the cheaper you’ll find the room rate.
Hotel Holmar is a small (5-room) relatively new hotel located about ¼ block from the beach and a couple short blocks from the Main Plaza. The rooms are large with a quiet air conditioning unit and cable TV but no phone. The bathroom in the room we stayed in was clean and had a good-sized shower. We had 2 firm comfortable (similar to queen) “matrimonial” sized beds covered only with a sheet. There is a small pool that is adequate for a relaxing dunk but not for swimming laps. The staff speaks limited but basic hotel English and was extremely helpful in booking tours and making restaurant recommendations. There is a small shop selling souvenirs and some traveler basics. We were pleasantly surprised when we asked if they had a throwaway underwater camera for sale and one was produced. Our room cost $800 pesos ($73) a night including all taxes and fees. We would definitely stay there again. Click on this link for a Spanish language web page for Hotel Holmar.
We haven’t stay there but have noticed that Hotel Mawimbi is a cute place in a good beachfront location. Not all rooms there offer a/c. Rates for standard rooms start at about $75 and bungalows with a kitchenette at about $90
Part of the attraction to the Casa Sandra Hotel (also referred to as the Casasandra Hotel) is the Sibumi Spa. Therapies offered there include Relaxing massage, Lymphatic drainage, Holistic, Chiromassage, Reflexology, Specific, Shiatsu and Reiki. Non-hotel guests are welcomed to take advantage of spa services. Off-season superior rooms start at $227. Rates include continental breakfast and free Wi-Fi service.
Las Nubes de Holbox is a luxury boutique hotel with 19 rooms ranging from bungalows to several different suite configurations. The hotel offers 2 open-air swimming pools, one with heated water. Room rates begin at about $250 per night and includes Wi-Fi service and breakfast.
The Faro Viejo Hotel is a bit on the rustic side and does not offer all of the services that you’ll find at some of the finer hotels in town but it enjoys a terrific location and some awesome beach views The beds are hard and there is no TV in the rooms but they are air conditioned. Hotel facilities include a beachside restaurant/bar (where the top photo on this page was taken) serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Rooms start at about $100.
Beginning at about $57 per night per room, one of the least expensive hotels we are aware of in Holbox is the Hotel Casa Barbara. It’s located just off the main square in the middle of the town about a 10 minute walk from the shore line. Rooms have a/c and satellite TV and are arranged around garden and pool area.

One of the more economical beach-front hotel options in Holbox is the Hotel La Palapa, which generally receives good reviews. The design style is Colonial-Caribbean and the hotel bar benefits from some nice views. All rooms have ensuite facilities, a balcony and Wi-Fi connection.

We’ve never personally checked out any in Holbox but there are quite a few “posadas” on the island. Posadas typically are rustic rooms or studio apartments with limited (or no) services and few frills but they do offer an option for the budget conscience. Because of their typical in-town locations, noise can sometimes be a problem. Two posadas we’ve seen recommended in Holbox are the Posada de los Arcos and the Posada Laury. If you don’t have a stronger recommendation than we can offer, we would suggest that if you want to go the posadas route, you check out the room yourself before you book. You should expect to pay about $40 a night for a double room.
